THE VISIT ALLOWED ON-THE-SPOT EXAMINATION OF “GOOD PRACTICES” AIMED AT PREVENTING AND REDUCING VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS  
Project Study Visit to England Took Place Between November 23-29th, 2014

Throughout the course of the visit which took place between the dates 23-29th November 2014, studies at ministerial and school level were made in London, University of Northampton and Birmingham.

The study visit to England, organised under the 2nd Component of Project for Fight against Violence towards Children, allowed a series of visits to schools by the Delegation consisting of high ranking representatives from the Ministry of National Education.

The visit focused on how schools manage social behaviour and learning of children/young people in addition to “Model School” practices.

During these studies, observations were made with a special emphasis on the 10 features of ‘Model School’ developed under our Project. The Delegation was able to observe example practices regarding the features mentioned below, in schools which achieved huge success in these fields.

 

  • Whole school behaviour management policies and approaches,
  • Behaviour management-rewards and sanctions,
  • Relations with parents,
  • Guidance support and guidance for personal problems and needs,
  • Initiatives against bullying, solution ways,
  • Effective and efficient use of inter-institutional support etc.

The Delegation also had the opportunity to learn about the perspectives and opinions of key practitioners (school leaders) as well as classroom based practitioners and expert staff.

Through the visit, it was envisaged that delegation members receive information on “good practices” in the field of social behaviour management and improving learning. The information received by the delegation is expected to be used in support of developing school based approaches in Turkey.

In the final day of their visit, delegation members were hosted by officials from the Department of Education at the department headquarters. There, they were given a briefing on current approaches in managing student behaviour, practices, current inspection and guidance system in schools in England.
